Garrett Caples’ poem Synth was published by Kolourmeim in a limited edition of 31 copies on the occasion of the poet Jeff Clark’s 31^st birthday (4/29/02). The delightfully weird, symbolist-influenced poem was subsequently reprinted in Caples’ full-length volume Complications (Meritage Press, 2007). Synth’s money-green paper and cover eye—derived from Lincoln’s eye on the then-new $5.00 bill—suggest its pricelessness beyond the sordid world of capitalist exchange.
